Well done Adam Poole on a very good triathlon debut, in the Culford Tri at Bury St Eds.

London 2012 Olympics Volunteering
As I am sure you are no doubt aware, the Olympics are being held in London in 2012. Having the Olympics held in our home nation is not an opportunity I personally want to squander (I squander enough opportunitites thank you!) so I am hoping to volunteer my services to be what the London 2012 team call a Games Maker - and am quite excited at this prospect!

Recently I have received an email from the London 2012 team responding to my intitial query regarding how I could get involved. I thought I would share this with the club as I am sure that others will be interested to be involved too. Here are some links to whet your appetite (the last link is the most pertinent):

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/athletics/8859274.stm
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympic_games/london_2012/8859642.stm

There is already quite a buzz surrounding the games and I am pretty sure the volunteering spots will be snapped up sharpish, so good luck!

London Triathlon
More quality multi-eventing from Noel Carroll (pictured) at the London Triathon. His 2:12:24 for 74th place out of almost 1000 at the Olympic distance finished with a blistering 34:47 10K run, tenth quickest of the day.

Camping at Stiffkey, Norfolk, 2nd - 4th July 2010
With apologies (again) to the Great McGonagall

'Twas in the year of two thousand and ten
That C&C sent 3 women and 5 men
To be happy campers in NorfolK, in Stiffkey.
Amongst the group were Glyn, Matthew, Luda, Fiona and me,
Not forgetting those redoubtable rovers, Mandy and Tim,
Yes, better not forget Tim, for it was organised by him;
And then there was Dave, complete with plate.
So all in all, we added up to eight.

The site there is very scenic and pretty
The conversation, needless to say, was extremely witty.
The staff and fellow-campers were friendly, the whole lot.
The showers were clean and the water was hot.
The weather was perfect, not a drop of rain,
Though the cold at night caused some of us pain.

On the Saturday, for 9 miles we strode and strolled.
It was a varied route, but if truth must be told,
It did include, ahem, a 'naturist' bit of the coast.
Glyn swam nearby, but kept his trunks on, we were pleased to note!

On the next day, rising with the sun,
Matthew and Luda drove over to the March Spud Run.
The rest of us ran the coastal path to Blakeney and beyond.
It was about 10 miles, and we were long gone.
It rounded off a great 2 days and 2 nights.
If it happens again, watch for it on this website.

Girton 5K
The field for the Girton 5K was full of C&Cs - nothing to do with the beer at the finish, I'm sure. We turned in a good set of performances too. Best of all was victory in the women's race by George Schwiening, who held off her Tri Club rival by six seconds, runnng 18:37. In-form Caz Pritchard was next in. In the men's race, Alan Pritchard matched Caz by finishing third with 17:27. Also well up there were Jonathan Escalante-Phillips, David Harrison and Alessandro Coianiz, sixth to eighth. Well done the C&C squad.

Housewarming in Royston
We are having a housewarming do on 7th August which we would like to invite all the runners to. If you would like to come but don't know where to please email me (Carol) to get the address. Come any time from 2pm to evening, depending if tea and cakes or BBQ and beer is your thing.
Runs on the heath optional.......

Fairlands Valley Challenge
Here's one that nearly escaped me. Huge congratulations to Dave Pell on winning the off-road, marathon-distance Fairlands Valley Challenge near Stevenage. Well done Simon Redfern too, completing his fiftieth marathon. Phew!
[Andy I, Tue 20/07/10]

Midlands News
A brilliant weekend's racing for Caz Pritchard. A first-ever sub-20 5K (and a win) at the Coventry parkrun (after last week's agonising 20:00 in Cambridge) was followed up by a big 10K PB (and fifth place) at the Worcester Pitchcroft 10K. Al's 36:38 for 23rd was pretty sharp too. Congrats to the Pritchards.
[Andy I, Tue 20/07/10]

England Athletics Championships
Track news: congratulations and commiserations to our only representative at the National Championships - Ed Aston missed out on the 800m title by eleven hundredths of a second to Enfield's Darren St Clair, clocking 1:49:69.
[Andy I, Mon 19/07/10]

St Ives 10K
The C&C squad at the rather windy St Ives 10K was smaller than in the past, but yet again the quality was there - six of our eight finished top-four in their category. Star performances came from Charlie Wartnaby (second overall and first Vet) and Bob Watson (seventh and first V45) - many congratulations to them. The rarity of John Oakes being pipped in the V50s was still worth a good second place, whilst thirds went to Alex Downie and Carmel McEniery. Well done all.
The icing on the cake was winning the men's team prize. Congratulations to Charlie, Bob, John and Chris Brown.
In the C&C Grand Prix, Bob leads John by a daunting 23 points, but John has a race in hand. In the age-graded standings, it'll be really close between the two when John runs his fourth counting race.
[Andy I, Mon 19/07/10]

Milton Keynes Half
More silverware! Another classy run by Ben Baldelli, finishing sixth, and first Vet, at the Milton Keynes Half in 1:15:09.
[Andy I, Mon 19/07/10]

Pen y Fan Fell Race
All those Tuesday sessions on Madingley Hill paid off for Dave Mail on Saturday, keeping up with the mountain people at the Pen y Fan Fell Race. Read Dave's excellent report here, and view the photographic evidence that Fenlanders can do hills here.
[Andy I, Mon 19/07/10]

Box End Sprint Triathlon
A belting result for Noel Carroll at the Box End Sprint Tri near Bedford. Sixth place overall, and, gratifyingly, the quickest run leg of the day. Great stuff, Noel!
[Andy I, Wed 14/07/10]

RAF Marham 10K
King of the C&C overall wins in recent years is unquestionably Ben Baldelli, and he was back on pot-collecting form on Sunday at the RAF Marham ten-miler. 56:29 in the July sun - magnificent!
[Andy I, Tue 13/07/10]

Felsted 10K
You can't stop Dave Edwards - more excellent running and another PB over the Essex border.
[Andy I, Tue 13/07/10]

Bushy 10K
Possibly a smaller C&C turnout than expected at the Bushy 10K, hosted by our chums from Bushfield, but certainly no lack of quality. Will Mycroft took fifth place in a shade over 35, whilst Bob Watson's 36 and a bit placed him ninth, and second in his class. And Andrew Shields wasn't far behind Bob. Cracking runs on a sweltering day.
[Andy I, Tue 13/07/10]

Lord Mayor's 5K
The Lord Mayor's 5K in Norwich is undoubtedly the most prestigious 5K in the region, and attracts the best runners around - I wouldn't even be allowed to enter. So hats off to C&C new boy Charlie Wartnaby for his 13th place (and third Vet), running a very sharp 16:26.
[Andy I, Tue 13/07/10]

Histon Feast Fun Run
Very tricky to make sense out of the Histon Feast Fun Run results, but it looks like we managed some good placings...!
[Andy I, Tue 13/07/10]

Great Bentley Friday Five
John Oakes and Dave Edwards made the trip to Essex for the last in the Friday Five Series, at Great Bentley. John maintained his 100% record in the V50 category, and was, as you might expect, crowned V50 winner of the series overall. Congratulations John! Great going Dave too, recording a superb PB.

Saffron Walden 5K News, Part 2
Individual results have been posted for Saffron Walden. If took your watch time and didn't give it to Adam on the night (and therefore don't have a time in the results), please get in touch. It looks like there are no official individual placings or times being published this season (don't ask me why!), so please try to give your times to Adam (or whoever has the magic clipboard) at the end of each race.
Particular congratulations to George Schwiening (first place), Helen Zenner Branco (second) and Miguel Branco (third place).

Match results also in....
C&C Blue: 2nd Male, equal 3rd Female, overall 2nd.
C&C White: 4th Male, 1st Female, overall 4th.
After 2 races: C&C Blue 2nd, C&C White 4th.

The Grand Prix standings have been updated accordingly, despite the odd anomaly in these latest results, and Bob Watson continues to lead the way.
[Andy I, Wed 07/07/10]

Not-So-Local Racing
We're in the prizes again! Congratulations to Katie Samuelson, running a rapid 41:34 to take third place at the Stratford Summer 6. And a Vet 50 win to report too (not from John O!) - Dave Edwards at the Milton Keynes parkrun. Nice one, Dave.
[Andy I, Tue 06/07/10]

Saffron Walden 5K
The results for the Kevin Henry 5K league haven't yet been posted. But, Andy, it did definitely take place. The route was - again - hilly with lots of single-file sections with only nettles to run next to. I arrived just as exhausted as last year to find that 40 other males had beaten me to the line. It was a friendly race, although I missed the amusing sight of an abundance of smudged war paint that we saw in Cambridge! No doubt someone with a clipboard will be able to give us some detail on the placings?
[Christof, Mon 05/07/10]

Saffron Walden 5K News
Did nobody go? What happened? Post away, or let me know. Ta!
UPDATE: Individual times and placings now in, but no time to post them yet...
[Andy I, Mon 05/07/10]

Local Racing
A couple of good local races for you, with good C&C performances too.
A bag of finest Fenland spuds was on offer to anyone completing the 5¼-mile March Spud Run on Sunday, and it's chips all round for Ben Baldelli, Caz Pritchard and Matt Applegate. Ben and Caz had their eyes on the podium and both mashed the opposition to finish third, with Matt not far behind, yet just missing out on the potato puns.
Over in Stetchworth, another classy C&C trio took on the Newmarket 10K, and pretty well monopolised the V50 category - well done John Oakes (another win, and seventh overall), Dave Edwards (third) and Paul Dewison (eighth).
[Andy I, Mon 05/07/10]

Kevin Henry 5K Race
The next 5K race is Thursday 1st July in Saffron Walden, starting at 19:30. The start is in the car park as you come in from Cambridge and the bottom of the hill. It's free to enter and all that's required is to wear your club vest and run. If I haven't added you to one of the teams and you'd like to run, please let me know your average 5k time so I can include you. I hope we can maintain the great start we had in June.

Stansted 10K
Honours even in the Pritchard household at the Stansted 10K, with Al and Caz both finishing fourth.
[Andy I, Wed 30/06/10]

C&C Hat-Trick at Bury
All footy-related disappointed will be dispelled by the news from the Bury Friday 5, where we scored a hat-trick of category wins. Bob Watson's excellent form took him to first place V45 in 28:12, with arch-rival John Oakes just behind, clocking 28:31 for the V50 honours. Diana Braverman rounded off a glorious evening by winning the V55s in 38:21. Cracking runs by Dave Edwards and Paul Dewison too. Well done the Suffolk Friday squad.
[Andy I, Mon 28/06/10]

West Highland Way Race
You can breathe now. News in from the West Highland Way Race - Kim Masson completed the 95 miles of mountainous wilderness in a stunning 23 hours, 58 minutes and 18 seconds. I hope never to be an expert on such terrifying things, but I know that's a genuinely classy performance. Many congratulations, Kim, and I hope you've got the week off!
[Andy I, Wed 23/06/10]

Walden Triathlon
Fine triathloning by our squad at the (Saffron) Walden Tri - Mike & Glyn Smith and the third-placed relay dream team of Cristina Martins and Adam Poole. Good stuff.
[Andy I, Wed 23/06/10]

Huntingdon 10K
Victory for Mike Salt in the first running of the Huntingdon 10K at the race course - congratulations, Mike. High finishes for Steve Thoday and Jane Schultz too. Apologies if I've missed anyone.
[Andy I, Mon 21/06/10]

North Downs Run
First results of the weekend are from the hills, woods and disappointingly poppy-deficient fields of Kent and the North Downs Run. The absence of the usual blazing sun may have been a help in nudging me below three hours at the third attempt, while first-timer Martin Strain was a fraction over. Wonderful race.
[Andy I, Mon 21/06/10]

Colworth Marathon Challenge
The Colworth Marathon challenge takes place in Bedfordshire this weekend (Friday 18-20 June). Three seperate races over the weekend to make up the marathon distance (5 mile race on Friday night, 8 mile trail race on Saturday and a half marathon on Sunday). There is free camping available for the weekend. There is entry available on the day for Saturday and Sundays race but not Friday's which may be full already.

The West Highland Way
(worth moving back to the top of the page - good luck Kim! - Andy)
I will be tackling the 95 mile route from Milngavie 7 miles north of Glasgow to Fort William to raise funding for Cam Mind a local mental health charity. The race starts at 1.00am on Saturday 19th June and if my body holds up it would be nice to finish before sunday.

If you would like to support CamMind you can sponsor me using the link below

Kevin Henry 5K League - Cambridge Results
I've stitched something resembling proper results together from the circumstantial evidence, but I still need with your help. If you know your race times from the Wilberforce Road fixture and were outside 23 min 18 sec, please contact me with any info you have (e.g. "I finished behind Fred and just in front of Wilma in about 20 mins"). I now have overall times and we already had male/female placings (and finish-line photos), but not overall placings which, if you think about it, is a bit of a problem!
I also have a lot of confusion around 18½ minutes, so if you finished around then, I'd love to hear who you finished with/near, and your watch time if poss.
Sorry, but absolutely everyone who provided a time has lost a second (or several). That's life, I suppose!
[Andy I, Tue 15/06/10]

Swaledale Marathon
Results now in from Swaledale, 23 miles of extreme hilliness. Impressive times from runners Dave Yeneralski, John Kazer and Carol Stanier, and impressive endurance from hikers Ginny Costello and Mary Holmes.
[Andy I, Tue 15/06/10]

Abbey 10K
The Abbey 10K at Ramsey was the main event of the day for C&C, and taking the honours were Mike Salt, with a superb second place in 33:53, and Bob Watson, first V45 and sixth overall in 35:32. Emma Kreetzer starred for our ladies, in ninth place. Well done to them and to Chris, Matt, Mark, Julie and Iona, who all performed admirably.
[Andy I, Mon 14/06/10]

Ten-Mile News
Congratulations to Ben Baldelli, who took victory at the lumpy, multi-terrain Stortford 10. Good racing by the Downies too, with Alex taking second in category. Click here to read Alex's report. Also in ten-mile action, Carmel McEniery took fifth place at Midsummer 10 at Wymondham, while I'm considering turning pro after cracking the top 30.
[Andy I, Sun 13/06/10]

St Albans Half
News trickling in from around the region - first is the St Albans Half, where John Oakes took 13th place out of 1976 runners, yet again topping his category. Dave Johnson's 36th and Andy Allsopp's 119th were also way up at the sharp end of the field - well done, guys.
[Andy I, Sun 13/06/10]

Parkrun Round-Up
If you haven't tried the parkruns in Milton Country Park, they're recommended - 9am Saturdays, 5km, free, (but register at the parkrun website in advance).
As it's so regular, it gets missed off the news here, but congratulations to all runners and organisers, with specific mentions for the following top-three finishers since April:
Bob Watson (one win, one 2nd and one 3rd), Katie Samuelson (one win, three 2nds and one 3rd), Chris Pyle (one 2nd), Caz Pritchard (one 2nd), Dave Johnson (one 3rd), Mike Salt (two wins), Ben Baldelli (a win and a 3rd), Rachel Haworth (one 2nd), Alessandro Coianiz (one win) and John Oakes (one 3rd).
[Andy I, Sun 13/06/10]

Friday Fives
On to Stowmarket for the next in the Suffolk-based five-mile series. No day off for John Oakes - again first MV50, and eleventh overall, and a second V55 placing for Diana Braverman. Good runs from Dave Edwards and Paul Dewison too.
[Andy I, Sun 13/06/10]

BBQ and Footy!
(from Steve Nicholson)
I'm sorry I couldn't think of a better way of doing this but (if you can work out who I am) you'd be welcome to come round for a BBQ and to watch the football on Friday 18th June (58 Longworth Avenue, Cambridge CB4 1GU). Feel free to bring meat or something to drink. If you can RSVP (e-mail steve.nicholson@stag.org) if you're planning on coming, I'll try and get the right quantities in. Kick off is 7.30, I'll have the BBQ hot from 6pm (if it's stopped raining by then) so we have time to eat before running indoors to the TV.
Brill. It would be good to see you.
Steve Nicholson

Tri Club 5K Series
It was the third and final race in the Tri Club 5K Series last night, and once again C&C featured strongly - well done to all the squad. First C&C was David Johnson in third place in 16:49, with Bob Watson first Vet, and fifth overall, in 17:12. Some particularly good times recorded. Well done too to James Tapley, who again won the 2K event.
[Andy I, Fri 11/06/10]

Katie's Series Win
Congratulations to Katie Samuelson, who confirmed her overall victory in the Senior category of the Harlow Ladies 5K series races, finishing fourth on the night.
[Andy I, Thu 10/06/10]

St Neots Half Marathon
This is always a popular race. Entries opened yesterday and in just one day a third of the available places have been taken. This year it is on 21st November, and you can enter online here.
Update: Too late, it's full!
[Simon, Wed 02/06/10]

Tilty Hilly Thrills
John Oakes's sequence of category wins finally came to an end in the Tilty Hilly 5 at Dunmow. Perhaps not surprising after such a tough racing week! Still, second V50 and seventh overall is nothing to sneeze at - well done John. Same to Glyn Smith, third V60 and coming back into very good nick.
[Andy I, Mon 07/06/10]

Kirton Friday Five
Out to deepest East Suffolk for the Kirton Friday Five, and John Oakes's monopoly of the V50 category continued with a sub-28 PB and another just-under-90% WAVA rating. More congrats, John! Good run by Paul Dewison too, finishing in 35½.
[Andy I, Sun 06/06/10]

Kevin Henry 5K League - Cambridge
Last night was the first of the four 5K league races for this season, and it was our home fixture. Great to see so many turning out. I counted six teams, of which two were ours (C&C Blue and C&C White) and one was the new boys/girls from Cambridge Tri. White took first place female team and fourth male, Blue were second and third respectively, with overall standings second for White and third for Blue. This is all subject to correction, I should point out!
Many thanks to all who joined Adam's team and helped put the event on - you were all superb.
Individual placings now up, times to follow when available.
Matt's other half's excellent pics are going up in the gallery as I type.
[Andy I, Fri 04/06/10]

Bupa London 10000
You know it's a classy race when the winner (Mo Farah) breaks the UK best in outsprinting the world record holder (Micah Kogo), so Noel Carroll's 26th place out of 8000-plus in the London 10000 was pretty special. Noel clocked 34:48 - congratulations to him.
[Andy I, Wed 02/06/10]

Kevin Henry 5K League - THIS THURSDAY
7:30 start from the track, Wilberforce Road. Please do your best to turn out for this vital match (no fee, no registration, just wear your C&C vest). It's the first fixture of the summer season, and we're hosting, so if you can't run, get in touch with Adam about how to help out with marshalling.
[Andy I, Tue 01/06/10]

Hatfield Broad Oak 10K
The Hatfield Broad Oak 10K is a big race with a quality field, and appropriately we sent John Oakes and Bob Watson to renew their rivalry at the fast end. John pipped Bob this time, by seven seconds in 35:02 (35:01 chip) and took second in his category. Despite missing a PB by two seconds, this was another club best WAVA age grading (since 2006), 89.83% (birthdays have their uses!). Bob's 35:09 (35:07 chip) was worth an excellent fourth in category and nearly 87%. Phenomenal running by both - will we see a 90% soon?
[Andy I, Tue 01/06/10]

Off-Road Bank Holiday Halfs
It's the time of year for a bit of off-road, and there was a squad of C&Cs in Brandon Forest for the Half Marathon on Monday. Star performance came from David Johnson, with an outstanding second place, whilst also in the prize list was Diana Braverman, second V55. Congratulations to both of them. Good running by Dave Mail, Dave Edwards, Katie Samuelson and Simon Redfern. On similar lines, John Kazer and Carol Stanier successfully conquered Sunday's Woodland Half in Bourne Woods, familiar to many as the Bourne Frostbite venue. John's run was good enough for third place overall - congrats, John.
[Andy I, Tue 01/06/10]

'EVERSDEN 5' ENTRIES OPEN

Tri Club 5K
Latest Tri Club 5K results up. Congrats Diarmuid Ó Séaghdha (1st), David Johnson (3rd) and George Schwiening (2nd F), and well done all others. Apologies for inevitable errors as no affiliations are published.

Cambs Development Meeting
Lots of good performances at the Cambs Development Meeting at St Ives - follow the link for full results - well worth a browse. The races included the County Championships for 3000m, and they were won by George Schwiening and Miguel Branco. Congratulations to our new champions and well done the rest of the squad.

Camping weekend
I have booked a few pitches at Stiffkey campsite on the North Norfolk coast, for the nights of July 2 & 3. Cost is £7 per pitch plus £4 per adult. I dont need any money in advance but please let me know by June 18 if you definitely want to go.

White Peak Marathon
No doubt the gorgeous scenery on the Tissington and High Peak Trails was enough to compensate for being slowly fried to a crisp in the White Peak Marathon. Congratulations to the charred remains of Stephen Nicholson (an excellent ninth place), Katie Samuelson and Simon Redfern for their heroics.
[Andy I, Mon 24/05/10]

Marlborough Downs Challenge
Well done David Edwards, capping a series of consecutive marathon weekends with the hilly Marlborough Downs Challenge 33-mile trail race in 5:51. Just parkrun this week then!

Race for Life 2010
Message from Lucy Hynes:
I am in the process of organising Race for Life 2010 in Cambridge and wondered if you may be able to get some helpers for the day – It’s Sunday 4th July and we need all sort of help – marshals on course and event set up. An athletic club would be brilliant.
The event is huge – 8000 participants going through the streets of Cambridge – this year it starts on Parkers Piece and finishes on Jesus Green.
The link to register is http://www.raceforlife.org/support-race-for-life/volunteer.aspx or please contact me directly. Lucy.Hynes@cancer.org.uk

Harlow Ladies 5K Series
Race 2 of 3 from Harlow, and Katie Samuelson's still going well - fourth place in 20:27, and first senior. Good stuff, Katie.
[Andy I, Thu 20/05/10]

Windermere Marathon
More quality distance stuff from Katie Samuelson at the Brathay Windermere Marathon, where she finished fourth female and first senior in 3:24. Congratulations Katie!
[Andy I, Tue 18/05/10]

East Cambs Half
For some reason there was a much-reduced field in Soham for the East Cambs Half, but C&C still put out a sizeable squad for this excellent race. Dave Pell led us in with a 1:23, ahead of Simon Brightwell's 1:28 and Alejandra Pascual Garrido, who finished fourth female in 1:38, whilst Carmel McEniery put her volcanic traumas behind her in style by winning the V35 category in 1:44.
[Andy I, Mon 17/05/10]

Dereham 10
Another category win for John Oakes, this time at the Dereham 10 in the scarily quick time of 58:42, another PB, I think! That run was good enough for fourth place overall. Congrats again, John.
[Andy I, Mon 17/05/10]

Track News
Check the Cambs AA site for full County Champs results, or to keep up with comprehensive stats and news from a C&C perspective, see the excellent T&F results section of the C&C official site.
We did amazingly well at St Ives, winning the team events in every category except Senior Men, which went to Nene Valley Harriers.
In extended brief(ish) summary, well done to all, but particular congratulations to our new champions Joan Lasenby (senior 1500m), Laura Bass (senior 400m), Lauren Sammout (senior long jump and triple jump, U20 discus), Hayley Sayer (U20 hammer and shot), Oliver Cantrill (U13 75m hurdles and 800m), Tommy Mila (U13 javelin), Aeden Slack (U13 shot), Charlotte Murphy (U13 1500m), Lucy Parker (U13 800m), Katie Reynolds (U13 high jump, long jump and shot), Joseph Ebanks (U15 100m), Guy Kendall (U15 1500m), Benjamin Snaith (U15 800m), Morgan Young (U15 discus), Jake Mair (U15 long jump), Ben Cowley (U15 triple jump), Hollie Parker (U15 1500m), Natalia Rehakova (U15 300m), Imogen Hyde (U15 discus and hammer), Ella Cave (U17 100m and 80m hurdles), Jenny Richards (U17 hammer), Flavia Kumar (U17 triple jump), Ben Kelk (U20 100m and a championship best in the 110m hurdles) and George Cummins (U20 long jump).
[Andy I, Wed 12/05/10]

Sawston Fun Run
No results in yet for the 25th Sawston Fun Run, but the Cambridge News tells me it attracted 1202 runners and the men's race was won by Will Mycroft and the women's by George Schwiening, both C&Cs. Congratulations Will & George!
[Andy I, Mon 10/05/10]

River Cam Run
No doubting the star event of a packed racing programme. The first ever River Cam Run attracted a big squad of C&C runners to Fen Ditton, and they featured strongly at the front. First C&C was Giacomo Capetti in fourth place, with Giulio Cinque sixth. Both won their category. Meinou Simmons was our first female, and took second place in the race. Congratulations to all of them, and well done the rest of the team. Congratulations also to race director Ben Baldelli and his team. Ben plans a reprise of the River Cam Run on 17th October, with a brand new Eversden 5 on 28th August, so let's give them our support.

Halstead & Essex Marathon
The Halstead & Essex Marathon has a reputation for being furnace-like on occasions, but this time conditions were absolutely perfect. Taking full advantage were Kim Masson (in ultra training), David Edwards (on a streak of consecutive marathon and ultra Sundays) and me (at a loose end). Kim is in such good nick that she took sixth place and first in her category, but well done all of us.

Colchester 10K
John Oakes's golden form continued on Sunday at the Colchester 10K. Not only was his 34:59 good enough for third place (and again first V50), it was a PB and worth a whopping 89.18% WAVA grading, another new 'all-time' C&C best. I was about to make comparisons with Alexander the Great's Persian campaign, but I think I was getting carried away slightly. Congrats again, John.

Eye 10K
The Eye 10K is always one of the most popular races amongst C&C runners. Except this year! There may have been a more attractive offer elsewhere... However, our two representatives did us proud, both winning their categories. Congrats to Bob Watson (first V45 in 36:09, ninth overall) and Diana Braverman (first V55 in 48:01). In the seemingly jinxed Grand Prix (who picked the fixtures?), Bob and Diana both move into the top four.

Harlow Ladies 5K Series
Belated result from the 5K Series at Harlow - Katie Samuelson took her good form from the parkruns to Essex and came away with the best time of the lot, 20:11, to take third place.

Thursday Night Races
Well done John Oakes for taking another V50 prize, this time at the Newmarket Heath Run. Also on, the first of the Tri Club's 5K Series. Unfortunately they haven't published affiliations, so I'm largely guessing who was running for us and who wasn't, so any assistance would be appreciated! David Johnson was first C&C in 17:16, with a good bunch of C&Cs not far behind. George Schwiening's second place in the females will have been for the Tri Club, sadly, but great going anyway, and the same is true of James Tapley's win in the 2K event. Full results in the, um, results section.

Bartlow Challenge
A dominant performance by C&C at the off-road and, er, challenging Bartlow Challenge 9-miler. Official results not in yet, but Ben Baldelli took the victory in around 56 minutes, with Alessandro Coianiz second, having carried his heavy, mud-encrusted shoes for the last kilometre. Giulio Cinque, like Alessandro recovering from the London Marathon, ran well to finish close behind.

Ashdon 10K+
Results now in from Ashdon, where Benedict Kennard and Alex and Fiona Downie flew the flag ably for C&C, but star effort came from Seth Kennard, who won the 3K race. Well done Seth! Apologies to anyone I've missed (clubs weren't listed). Literary fans will enjoy Alex's report.

Breckland 10K
A bit of a blustery Bank Holiday Monday, but it didn't hold John Oakes and Bob Watson back at the Breckland 10K. In a stunning battle, John ran a big PB of 35:16 to take fifth place overall, edging Bob into sixth with 35:33. Of course, both won their category by a long way. John's 88.47% WAVA grading was the best by a C&C runner 'ever' (since at least 2006), whilst Bob's ranking made the top ten (all ten are owned by John and Bob!). A case of 'follow that' for poor John Evans, whose excellent 38:57 was pretty sharp too. Congrats to all.

Grand East Anglia Run
The Grand East Anglia Run in King's Lynn is one of the biggest races in the region, so it's good to see C&C runners featuring very strongly. Mike Salt, in eighth place with 33:51, just pipped Noel Carroll, tenth in 34:02, and also in the upper reaches were David Johnson (38th) and Simon Bowen, whose 60th place was the second-best V50 performance. Superb running, chaps.

Kevin Henry 5K League - Teams for 2010
Please follow the link on the left or click here for the proposed teams for the forthcoming Kevin Henry 5k races.
Neil and I have taken the times from last year's races and split the runners to form two equally balanced teams (please don't worry about the team names at this stage as they will change).
If I have missed anyone off the list or if you see your name and you're unable to run in any of the races, please do let me know so I can ammend accordingly.
This, as I have previously mentioned will be a trial year, which I hope will be successful so we can prove (to the other teams and ourselves) that with two teams, C & C is still a tour de force. As also previously mentioned having two teams will make it fairer for the other local teams plus allow for runners who wouldn't normally score to do so and therefore make a difference.
The first race is Thursday 3rd June in Cambridge starting at 19:30. It will be run on a brand new course with the start and finish being at the track.
If you do have any comments or questions, please feel free to contact me.

London Marathon
London Marathon results now in - let me know if I've missed anyone.
Another huge day in London, and a mixture of triumph and disaster as usual. Well done everyone who made it round, and heartfelt thanks from them to the support crew. Special congratulations to our top male and female finishers, John Ferguson (2:52) and Kim Masson (3:11), who were absolutely magnificent.
There were plenty of other fine performances, and at the risk of missing out other deserving cases, I'd pick out Alan Pritchard's sub-3 marathon debut (just pipping a battling Caz to the hotly-contested Debutant-Pritchard-of-the-Day award), sub-3s from Alessandro Coianiz and the returning Pietro Liguori, near-PB runs from experienced marathoners Giulio Cinque and Katie Samuelson, and training mates Andrea Martinelli and Maria Brightwell's excellent 3:30-somethings. A very good day.

Flitwick 10K
Good to see Peter Howard and Sue Barnett going well at the Flitwick 10K. Congratulations to Sue for taking top prize in her category, in a highly competitive field.
[Andy I, Tue 20/04/10]

Bungay Marathon and Half
Congratulations to John Oakes on a cracking performance at the Bungay Half. John's 1:18 was a blink outside his PB, and took him to third place overall (and, needless to say, first V50). Well done David Edwards too - on the same undulating course (but twice round), David ducked under 3:30 in the Bungay Marathon.

Cambridge Cambourne 10K
It's our biggest day of the year, and again we had something approaching a perfect day (ignoring the light breeze!). 987 runners finished the second Cambridge Cambourne 10K, and the first was our very own Steve Watterson, winning in 32:28 - congratulations Steve! Not far behind were a host of C&C stars, with Noel Carroll fourth in 34:28, Alan Pritchard 11th in 36:01. Bob Watson and Andrew Shields were second and third V40s, 14th and 17th overall. John Morley and Simon Brightwell battled it out for 20th, and Mike Smith was 33rd.
In the women's race, Ipswich's Helen Decker took top honours in a spectacular 35:07, beating all but half a dozen of the men. Our own in-form Katie Toynton's 41:42 gave her sixth place, pipping seventh-placed Caz Pritchard and ninth-placed Kim Masson. Kim also took first place in the V45s. Congratulations to all of those.
There were plenty of impressive performances from elsewhere in our 27-strong squad, so check the results for details.
Finally, a huge thank-you to everyone who made the event possible off the course as well as on. The feedback we've been getting is excellent (so far!) again, and it couldn't have happened without all your efforts. I won't name names because I'm bound to leave someone out (you all know who you are), but particular praise and hats off to race director Neil.

Sandy 10
Away from the Big Event, good going Stephen Penny and Glyn Smith at the Sandy 10.

Latest Documents
For any of us who may have missed Noel Moss's mailout (and for future reference), the mystifying world of competing for C&C in track and field is made comprehensible in the 2010 Competition Handbook, now stored in the Public Documents section (see lower left). Well worth a read, and will hopefully bridge a gap for those road runners wishing to take part in the 'other' discipline, or at least to understand what all those competitions are. Thanks to Noel and all contributors.

Fell Running News
Some people naturally think of Easter Sunday as a prime opportunity to run up a huge hill twice. Gerald Meah took on the Shining Cliffs Fell Race in Derbyshire and lived - good going, Gerald. Any more holiday weekends spent on the roads/hills/trails/swamps? Let me know.

Easter Running
Bob Watson was our sole representative at the Trowse 10K on Easter Sunday, and he did us proud with eleventh place and first V45. Not a bad holiday weekend for Bob, having taken second place in the parkrun the day before. Quality stuff, Bob. Also on the parkrun podium was Katie Samuelson, also in second place. Good going Katie as well. And well done me for not dusting off the usual egg puns for Easter.

Sudbury Fun Run
It's deja vu all over again at the Sudbury Fun Run where, for the second weekend in a row, John Oakes finished first V50, and this time exactly matched his PB of 28:26 from a few weeks back. Overall placing this time was fifth. Also starring was Diana Braverman, second V55 in 40:22. Good going, both.

Round Norfolk Relay
We've passed the application process (yes, really!) and we're signed up for another Round Norfolk Relay. 194 miles in 17 legs, 18th-19th September. We have one team, in the Club class which is the premier category (requirements: at least 5 female and 6 veterans), and we intend to field the strongest team possible in order to get in amongst the prizes with the likes of City of Norwich. Are you good enough? Can you make it? Quick people will be selected and targeted by Glyn and me in the nearish future, based on recent race performances for C&C, so put the dates in you diary. Slower people like me may have to wait a bit! Check out the race website here, and pics from last year here.

Thorney 10K and C&C Grand Prix
With just three of us there, the easiest-ever C&C Grand Prix points were on offer at the Thorney 10K, but our lads and lass didn't shirk their club duty. Katie Toynton's superb 42:18 was good enough not only for fifth place, but also to pip the very handy times from Steve Thoday and Dave Yeneralski. Well done all, and have 20 points (or 19) all round.
Unsurprisingly, Katie rockets to the top of the Grand Prix table with a maximum 40 points, and Dave slots into second with 30. Next up is the Eye 10K on 9th May.

From our Essex Correspondent
Few have plundered the East's silverware as ruthlessly since the Vikings. John Oakes' 29:16 at the Braintree five-miler gave him first prize in the Vet 50s and eleventh overall.
In the same county, John Evans took a brilliant ninth place in the St Clare Hospice 10K, clocking 38:40. Congratulations to both.

Oakley 20
A day of triumph and disaster in varying proportions at Oakley, but glory all round for completing (if I do say so myself). First C&C was debutant Andy Allsopp, and first C&C female was Meinou Simmons. Top running by Carmel McEniery next, PB-ing on a tough course. And a salute to Katie Samuelson, Hazel Turton, Deb Carter and (ahem) me. It'll be worth it on marathon day!

Joe Cox Half Marathon
Well, we had a pretty remarkable set of results from the Joe Cox Half at Stowmarket on Sunday. Every single one of our magnificent seven runners finished in the top three of his/her category, which is outstanding in such a high-quality race. First home were John Ferguson (eighth) and Andrew Shields (ninth), with Giacomo Capetti (13th), Simon Brightwell (18th) and Giulio Cinque (31st) right up at the sharp end too. Maria Brightwell (second V45) and Diana Braverman (third V55) repeated the feat in the women's race. Very, very impressive, team!

British Elite Duathlon Championships
Just back from Loughborough where the British Elite Duathlon Championships were held. We had a surprisingly large turnout from C&C (although all competing under their Triathlon colours). Will Clarke came 2nd in the Men's race after working hard to catch Tim Don. George Schwiening also finished 2nd in the Female Youth's race and Alice Sharpe in 8th place and Adam Tapley in 15th. A great performance throughout and another example of C&C runners showing their versatility!
